Chapter 399: The Beginning of Everything

What do you guys think of Itachi now?

I'm now wondering how did they convince Itachi to go against his clan. He was young at the time,only thriteen i think.,Why they pick him for an assignment like that?

This was a very interesting chapter. No matter how you look at it Itachi is a traitor. The question is did he make the right choice betraying his clan or the right choice following orders of the elders? I think betraying his clan was unforgivable no matter who told him to do it.

it was a great chapter but i feel that there was behind itachis decision than just following orders

i think that if he didn't do it they might have done something to sasuke maybe kill him

It's an interesting thought, but, personally, I wouldn't have said that the council and the Hokage would stoop to quite that level. It may have been that Itachi thought, if he didn't do it, someone else would. Someone who would have no qualms about killing his younger brother along with the rest of the clan.

I'm trying to wait until the whole story is out before I make a judgment, but either way it's pretty crazy. It's hard to believe the Hokage and his staff would order Itachi to do it. I mostly want to know why they did so. Seems like it'd be a no-win situation for Itachi: either you kill the clan or (most likely) they'll kill you and everyone anyway. It was a stunning chapter, that's for sure. I can't wait for more.

Well I do kind of dislike the fact they are making Itachi more of a martyr then anything else. It would be nice to have a bad guy just for the search for power, but thats just my opinion. I'm not so sure how I would go with the story since he did stay with Akatsuki even after he killed his clan so wouldn't that imply he had some other desire, and Tobi or Madara as we know wasn't always a member of Akatsuki either so that confuses me most right now. Overall I liked the chapter but I was actually hoping for a flashback rather then an explaination of the past.

What could Konoha say to Itachi to get him to spy on his own people....Even if they were getting together to attack kononha, why did Madara attack the clan...wasnt he the one that wanted the clan to attack....sooo many question.

even tho this backstory is ok. I reather get back to the death of Jariya.

Well we still dont know if Itachi betrayed his clan! He could've done the right thing, and hounour his clan, but Konoha leaders seeing that, killed all the uchiya and to punish itachi, they putted all the fault on him!
it could also be as ogihci said, that they threathened to kill Sasuke if Itachi didnt lead his clan to death, and maybe that why Itachi made Sasuke become so strong, to have revenge over those who placed him as a traitor to his clan!
But hey, it could be madara side of the story to make Sasuke have revenge against Konoha together with him.
By the way the event that detonated the bomb was the kyuubi awakening so i guess, naruto stands for a thing that desimated Sasuke whole clan! how will sasuke think of naruto now?!

well now that we knopw that itachi wasnt fighting his hardess and was already injured due to using his sharingan to much and he actually helped sasuke turn into the powerfukl shinobi he is now and what ^ is saying i believe hes right but remember the ninetales could be controled by a uchiha so what about that madara had something to do with all of this of the destruction of the clan maybe that was all a plan

even though itachi was young at the time his was a top notch ninja constenly praised him when they fought him in eps 88&89 i think about how he was leader of anbu at 13 or something towards that degree.
