The original Sage of Six Paths controlled all of the tailed beasts. (I think) As Naruto defeats these edo - jinkurichi, could he gain control of the tailed beast and therefore add that power to his own?

There is no evidence that Sage of Six Paths had controlled all the Tailed Beasts.

As per Madara/Tobi , it was the Juubi , which the Sage of Six Paths has sealed inside himself . And when he was in the verge of Death he split the Juubi into Nine Tailed Beasts and died.

Okay,strictly speaking the Sage of Six paths defeated and sealed the ten-tailed beast in himself.The one who controlled the tailed beasts was the 1st hokage whom according to Tobi controlled them like they were his pets. What I think may happen as

is that the 9 tails might actually recall some bits of the fights between 1st and Madara.That might be a good opportunity to flashback to their fight which am sure everyone wants to see. The 9 tails will eventually have to team up with

My comment about him being a "Beast" is in reference to his adaptation of his jutsu in chapter 545. Him being strong.

Naruto is very strong now. He can do mini rasen shuriken and he is very fast. He will beat madara with itachis gift and fight madaras toys like sasuke and make them his own toys
