Who is better Jiraiya or Shikamaru ?

They can't really be compared. They both have differing skill sets.i guess it's more a matter of opinion and favoritism.

I guess it all depends on the variables.
If they in a shady place Shikimaru would have the advantage but thats the only way I think he would have a chance of winning because Jiraiya is a sannin and is way more powerful. Unfair fight...

They both have there unique style of fighting and intelligent skill, but Shikamaru lack the year of experience which give Jiraiya the upper hand....

Honestly, any versus match i see with Jiraiya in it... yea'll know who I'm gonna say would win. Jiraiya! the mans just too powerful. Now, shika is a genious and all, but he just doesnt have enough chakra to out smart and out last some one like jiraiya. His shadow possession's wouldnt hold jiraiya long enough. He would just use his pine needle hair technique to subdue any shadow possession so it's really VERY unfair.

Shika is alot like naruto in the sense that he really only has one jutsu. Shadow possession, rasengan. Yes they both have different variations but come on cuh...

for me its Jiraiya coz hes may favorite and hes lazy, crazy and funny
