I loved the first one and it was absolutely amazing. But as for those who want it to follow the manga it sucks. Brotherhood is even better than the first FMA and follows the manga....So its perfect for all.

The first anime of FMA was great. I loved it, but it went into it's own world. It didn't follow the manga after a certain point. But the second one does follow the manga.
But Ducky, if you want to watch the first series, it is good. The ending is rather sad, but the movie FMA: the Conquerer of Shambala fixes it for us. So, yeah, watch it and see what you think. The first episodes are kind of boring when they are in Lior, but once you get past that, it's cool. Just dont' cry over Maes Hughes like I did. T_T... so sad.
